last night. and with the trust that has been vested in me by the voters of the district of columbia. someone who's a native washingtonian and a product of the public schools and a graduate of george washington university and having been here all of my life, it really gets no better than being able to have the confident dnc of the people who i have lived with my entire life to lead the city. so the first thing i want to do is thank the people of the district of columbia for their confident dnc they have demonstrated in me by yesterday's election. secondly, i want to -- i want to, once again, as we did last night, thank mayor fenty. thank you. i want to thank mayor fenty for his service to the district of columbia. like me, he is a native washingtonian. and i don't have any doubt that the mayor deeply, deeply cares for this city, and i know he has put his heart and soul in running the city for the last four years. i had a chance to talk to the mayor this afternoon and he pledged his 100% support to being able to help us make a smooth transition. i had a wonderful conversation with him

a strange case in columbia where two people were found inside a burning apartment. one dead. >> police say they brought a man in his 30's here to shock trauma. they believe he was seriously injured, but they say this happened they believe happened before the fire began. this all unfolded yesterday afternoon at an apartment complex in columbia and inside the apartment they found the body of a woman also appearing to be in her 30's. they believe the fire broke out after the man and woman suffered these injuries. friends say the man and woman were a couple and raising four children rangeing in age from 6 to 17, the two youngest children walked home from school to meet their mom and instead encountered their building cordened off by police tape. >> all of them are very good kids. well mannered. well behaved. i wish i had the space. i'd take them in myself. because she was an exceptional mom to those kids, and to know those kids' mom is gone now. it's heart-wrenching. >> it sure is. well, right now we know the man is listed in stable condition. no word if any charges will be file
